However, this gravity well has a downside. The complexity of Next.js has increased exponentially. We are seeing a rise in 'framework exhaustion' where the cognitive load required to master the latest version rivals that of learning an entire cloud platform. Drizzle ORM and the Myth of Perpetual Maintenance Velocity

For a tool that is supposedly the 'modern' alternative to Prisma, this lack of activity is a red flag. It suggests the project may be hitting its own maintenance wall. Stability in a library is often mistaken for maturity. Drizzle must prove it can maintain the velocity required to keep pace with the infrastructure shift, or it will be relegated to the 'legacy' bin alongside the tools it once sought to replace.

My bet is that within the next 24 months, the concept of a 'custom' stack will be viewed as a high-risk architectural smell for 90% of web applications. The efficiencies gained from a vertically integrated stack are simply too great for the average business to ignore.
